Preparations taken to combat Omicron in Mymensingh

Various preparations have been taken in Mymensingh district, including the Corona unit of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), the largest and main government hospital in the district.

402 beds in MMCH Corona unit and a total of 110 beds including 10 beds in each hospital of 11 upazilas of the district have been prepared.

Dr Waiz Uddin Faraji, Deputy Director of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said that a total of 402 beds in the Corona unit including 22 beds of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have been prepared to deal with Omicron.

“At present 100 beds are in operation. As the number of patient increases, more beds will be added in phases. Demand letter has been sent to the Department of Health and Mymensingh Divisional Health Director to provide additional doctors in case of increase in the number of patients,” he said.

The Deputy Director further said that a letter has been sent to the higher authorities to replace the 10,000-liter Central Oxygen Plant with a 20,000-liter tank.

Antigens are being tested first by collecting samples from Corona and Omicron suspected patients at the emergency counter of MMCH. Samples resulting negative are being sent to RTPCR lab of the hospital.

Waiz Uddin Faraji further said that everyone must wear a mask to deal with Omicron and Corona. The administration must take the necessary steps to ensure that that people are wearing masks. 

Dr Mohiuddin Khan Moon, Focal Person of the Corona Unit at MMCH, said that during the middle of last year, there was an oxygen crisis compared to the demand of the patients. This time they are giving more importance to that issue. This time they are keeping in contact with Dhaka so that there is no crisis.

He added that work is underway to install an oxygen generator. This will create oxygen from natural air. The crisis will be alleviated once the construction work is completed.

A 70-year-old man named Abul Kalam died at the Corona unit of MMCH on Thursday. He was being treated at the unit with corona symptoms. 

Dr Mohiuddin Khan Moon further said that 15 new patients have been admitted to the unit in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of patients undergoing treatment in the hospital’s Corona unit stands at 46. Of them, six are Covid positive patients. Besides, 4 people are currently undergoing treatment in ICU. Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 6 people have recovered and returned home.

Mymensingh Deputy Commi­ssioner Mohammad Enamul Haque said that a meeting of the District Corona Prevention Committee was held on January 12, 2022. 

Due to the increasing cases of coronavirus in the country, new guidelines have been issued by the Cabinet Division to prevent transmission. 

The meeting was organized to implement the instructions at the field level. All members of the committee were present at the meeting. 

A number of important decisions have been taken in the meeting to strictly implement the directives issued by the Cabinet Division.
