Hurricane Amphan created in the Bay of Bengal is rapidly accumulating energy. As a result, the sea is rough. Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to display local warning signal number 4.
The administration of Cox's Bazar has made extensive preparations to deal with the cyclone. Selters, Mujib Killa, various educational institutions, hotels, motels, medical rapid response teams, CPB volunteers, Red Crescent team, dry food, adequate medicine and everything has been kept prepared.
Abdur Rahman, assistant meteorologist at the Cox's Bazar Meteorological Office, said that the cyclone Amphan originated in the Bay of Bengal was storing energy in the same area. He said initial observations showed that it was likely to hit by May 20.
A meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee was held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner through a zoom conference on Sunday with the aim of providing emergency response in case of possible disaster situation.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamal Hossain said that all kinds of preparations have been made to deal with the cyclone Amphan. 576 cyclone shelters along with 25 Mujib Killa have been kept prepared already.
5 lakh 78 thousand people will be able to take shelter in the 576 shelters and 25 Mujib Killas maintaining social distance.
He said that since the Corona epidemic has now taken shape, all preparations have been made keeping that in mind. Vehicles have been kept ready to bring the people living in the low-lying areas to the shelter safely if the situation deteriorates.
The DC also said that there is sufficient stock of dry food and medicine.
Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Civil Surgeon, Cox's Bazar, said that 71 medical teams and 8 rapid response teams have been prepared. Six control rooms have been opened on Sunday. A team of surgery department of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital has been kept ready, said the civil surgeon.
Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, general secretary of the Cox's Bazar District Red Crescent Society, said members of the Red Crescent team are ready to work before and after the cyclone.
Cox's Bazar District Relief Officer Mahbub Alam said, "There is sufficient relief stock. CPB members have also been kept ready”.
Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain BPM said several teams of district police have been kept ready to maintain law and order during the disaster condition.
