Premier League second round resumes today

Published : 06 Feb 2022 07:44 PM

After a one day interval the second round of the TVS Bangladesh Premier League Football to resume from Monday with the Bashudhara Kings will take on Uttar Baridhara Club at the Bir Sreshtha Flight Lt. Matiur Rahman Stadium, Munshuganj.

One match will be held today when from tomorrow two matches will take place in two different venues of this round.

Meanwhile, the season was kicked off with a big upsetting result with the defending champions Bashundhara Kings suffered a shocking 1-2 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Swadhinota Kria Sangha.

It was great upset and as well as shocking for the Kings’ going down to a tenderfoot in the top flight domestic soccer Swadhinota KS. It was some humiliation for holders as they (Kings) already earned some reputations participating in the international competition (AFC Cup competitions).

But it was really a surprising for Bashundhara to concede defeat in the very first match in the premier league to Swadhinota KS because it was hardly considered that any team could defeat them in the domestic circuit, as it looked they turned into almost stubborn since their appearance.

But this season Bashundhara Kings, among top of the title contenders not looked in their real form, a bit disorganized and as if looking for to get back their real shape. Kings failed to win any trophy of the season’s opening tournaments - the Independence Cup, did not take part in the Federation Cup and conceded two defeats including the first one of the league against Swadhinota KS.

In fact, Bashudhara till now conceded only three defeats playing about 60 matches since their appearance in the top tire of local soccer competitions but despite fabricating the squad with most the national colours and some quality foreign booters yet to regain their form.

However, it is a great chance for Bashundhara Kings to have rare feat of celebrating the hat-trick championship of the league but it seemed that it would more that difficult for them to make it success.

This time it looked Bashundhara will have to cross a stiff hurdle to retain the league title, as they would have to face huge challenge of Abahani Limited, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Saif Sporting Club and even the Mohammmedan Sporting Club could also be strong barrier to overcome.

But it can be predicted that Abahani Limited would be the main competitors of the Kings when the traditional Sky-Blue have already lifted the independence Cup and the Federation Cup and eyeing to win the hat-trick trophy.

Abahani won the trophies of the season’s opener demonstrating tremendous performance when a couple of Brazilian forwards, Dorielton and Raphael Augusto along with Costa Rican world cupper Daniel Colindres (last season’s Bashundhara forward) and Iranian defender Sheikh Soleimai all are looked in fantastic form.

Both sides came into the tie season’s opening tourney Independence Cup final when Abahani just outplayed Bashundhara by 3-0.

So, this time it will be very much tough for Bashundhara Kings to deal with and overpower the closest contenders Abahani Limited.
