Pregnant woman’s body recovered from pond: Husband, mother-in-law held

Police recovered the body of an eight-month pregnant housewife from a pond at Chakdhaleshwar village under Atgharia upazila in Pabna on Monday. Husband Azim Uddin and mother-in-law Rashida Begum were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident. 

The deceased was identified as Amena Khatun, daughter of Amin Uddin of Chakdhaleshwar village.

According to locals and family sources, Amena was married to Zahid Hossain, son of Haider Ali of Kandappur area of Atgharia upazila about five years ago. Family quarrels had been going on between them since the marriage. The couple has a four-year-old daughter. The housewife was eight months pregnant.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atgharia Police Station Asif Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman confirmed matter. He said that police recovered the body after receiving information from locals. The body was sent to Pabna General Hospital for autopsy. 

The OC further said that the real reason would be known after receiving the autopsy report. A case was filed with the police station in this regard.
