Post-poll violence involving supporters of victorious and defeated candidates left an Awami League supporter dead and 170 people injured in 16 districts across the country. Therefore, we express grave concern about the post-poll violence in the country and urge the government to take all measures to stop violence.

It is a matter of concern. We do not know who to blame for it but violence cannot be tolerated at all.

Country’s people, different local and foreign agencies and foreign envoys expressed their satisfaction over the peaceful holding of the 12th parliamentary elections held on Sunday. They also said the election was held in a festive and peaceful atmosphere.

But, fresh cases of violence have been reported just a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged people to maintain peace and harmony. It is the responsibility of the government and the Election Commission to take action for any violence or chaos centring the national election.

Administration and law enforcement

agencies should take necessary steps

immediately

Political parties’ principle should not be violence. So, the government must not tolerate any type of violence.

Administration and law enforcement agencies should take necessary steps immediately. They will also have to stay alert to prevent any violence and sabotage after the peaceful poll. We are urging law enforcers to uphold their professionalism in maintaining law and order after the election so that people can feel secure and safe.

Members of law enforcement agencies have to work with utmost professionalism to ensure a fair environment and control the overall law and order in the country right now. Apart from post-poll violence, BNP-Jamaat also wants to take to the streets in the name of movement. And they will continue to get involved in arson terrorism, destruction and criminalization. So, they also should not be spared.

Security forces must maintain law and order in the country. No one should be allowed to unleash a reign of terror.
