Post-poll plot must be tamed

BNP leaders’ latest statements regarding the January 7 national parliamentary election clearly indicate that a fresh deep-rooted conspiracy is being hatched to create unrest and political strife in the country deliberately when the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government starts its fresh journey for a historic fourth consecutive term today (Sunday). The plot is being hatched to make the country’s 12th general election held on January 7 in a free, fair and peaceful manner, questionable and controversial.

It is all part of a conspiracy to unleash terror and anarchy across the country, but the plot has already been exposed to intelligence and law enforcement agencies. People would like to see the new government dealing squarely with evil forces and preventing conspiracies being hatched to dent the image of the country.

BNP leaders described the new Awami League government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as the “blackest artificial regime in Bangladesh with the characteristics of one-party fascism”.  However, it is known to all that such statements by BNP are futile and the party will not reap any benefit by making such statements to raise brows about the national election.

Noting that the BNP’s initial plan was to foil the national election. After the announcement of the election schedule, they made a plan to stop the festive atmosphere centring the polls. Besides, they (BNP-Jamaat) had tried to resist the people from balloting (by burning people to death through arson violence and distributing leaflets).

Despite the fact, Sheikh Hasina has set an example of holding a free and fair national election with 41.8 percent voter turnout.

Different countries and international agencies firmly pledged to continue support to Bangladesh after extending greetings on behalf of their respective countries to Sheikh Hasina. So, the all-out efforts of the evil forces to ruin the national poll and make it questionable ultimately went in futility.Voters exercised their franchise to continue the country’s democratic progress. Therefore, none bothers who accepted the election or who did not as the acceptance of the polls by people matters only.

BNP has many masters or mentors abroad. The party is still lodging complaints with their masters.

Therefore, an evil force inside the country again wants to overthrow the government through conspiracy both at national and international levels. They will try to resort to arson to foil the peaceful atmosphere now prevailing in the country with the start of the journey of the new government. The anti-liberation and communal forces along with BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are now very active across the country to destroy the post-poll atmosphere and democratic process as well. Apart from the BNP-Jamaat clique, we are observing with deep concern that ignoring moral responsibility some cliques are now also out to hurdle the journey of the new government.

Besides, being benefitted politically, the anti-liberation forces are always hatching conspiracies capitalising on any issue both at home and abroad. So, the pro-liberation forces must devote themselves to the betterment of the country and thwart anti-state conspiracies unitedly.

Imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War all will have to remain alert against the vested elements so that they could not create any unwanted situation in the country. Country’s people have evaluated Sheikh Hasina for what she has done for them in the last 15 years, and voted her party to power again.

The stark truth is that if any vested quarter takes over the helm of the country, there will be killing, crimes, terrorism and militancy by anti-liberation forces and corruption again. The incidents of killings in the country would surface again, deviating from the right track if it goes to someone else’s hands.

We think the new government must punish those who are still engaged in such heinous anti-state and anti-government-plot staying at home and abroad. Such evil forces should not be spared at all.

We think the BNP must shun the path of conspiracies and hooliganism. They must do politics in constructive and democratic way. And they have to wait for the next five years as they repeatedly boycotted the elections.
