A voluntary organisation named ‘Lakshmir Bhandar Kalyan Samiti’ is working to meet the demand of poor families for clean water in Lohagara Upazila of Narail.

The organization is providing deep tube-wells to poor families at low cost to meet their demand of clean water with the financial help of some expatriates along with the savings of the 41 members of the organisation.

According to sources, the organisation called Lakshmir Bhandar Kalyan Samiti was formed in 2019 with the help of local youths in Dighalia area of Lohagarh Upazila.

President of the organisation Samprat Ghosh said, “In almost all the villages of Lohagara, there is excessive arsenic in the water of tube-wells, which is extremely harmful to the human body. So we are installing deep tube-wells in the homes of poor people at low cost”.

More than 200 deep tube-wells have already been installed in Dighalia, Kola, Talbaria, Kumri, Dighalia Purbapar, Chardighalia, Latia and Kotakol villages, he added.

Samprat Ghosh further said, “I have received news that some people have embezzled money from the villagers by discrediting the name of Lakshmir Bhandar Kalyan Samiti by promising to provide tube-wells.

We will take legal action in this regard. We are running the project with the money of the members of the association and with the help of the rich of the society”.

Beneficiaries Kibria Mollah (40) of Dighalia Palpara and Firoza Begum (75) of Dighalia said that they have immensely benefited from getting the deep tube-wells at a low cost and thanked the voluntary organisation.
