Polythene-laden truck seized, 2 held

Officials of the Directorate of Environment and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a joint drive had seized a truck loaded with 4,100 kilograms of banned polythene paper on the Dhaka-Jhenaidah Highway on Saturday. 

The law enforcers have also grilled two persons in this connection. The banned polythene was scheduled to be handed over to a section of businessmen in Jhenaidah,  said the directorate of environment and RAB sources. 

The arrested were identified as Nizam, 24, on of Shawkat Ali of Musurikhola village in Savar of Dhaka and Imran Hossin, son of Bazlur Rahman of Lakkhipur in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur. 

The sources said they were informed that a truck loaded with huge banned polythene paper was marching towards Jhenaidah town for selling purposes. 

As per the information, the law enforcers had challenged the truck in Porahati area on Jhenaidah-Dhaka highway and nabbed the duo.

When contacted Assistant Director of the Directorate of Environment Muntasir Rahman said, the weight of the seized polythene was 4,100 kilograms which was loaded on the truck from Chalkbazer in Dhaka.

 It was booked in the name of a Jhenaidah businessman.

 The arrested were handed over to Jhenaidah Sadar police station after filing a case, the directorate of environment official said.

Further investigation has been going on to find out the related persons and organisations involved in the case.
