Polytechnic teachers stage demo for salary

Teachers and employees of Faridpur branch of National Polytechnic Institute formed a human chain and staged demonstration maintaining social distance in Faridpur on Tuesday noon demanding  payment of due salary of three months.

Acting principal of Faridpur branch of National Polytechnic Institute Balram Chandra Dey, mathematics teacher Kaniz Fatema, computer teacher Rafiqul Islam and administrative officer Md Lutfar Rahman spoke during the hour-long human chain on the road in front of Kamlapur Chanmari College campus in Faridpur town. Later, a demonstration procession was brought out. 

Some teachers said, “We get a small salary from this college, we are not paid according to the government scale. The salary we get does not support our family. At present we have 3 months salary due, we are living in inhuman condition in this corona crisis with our family members.” 

They also said that when they contacted the authorities, they made it clear to that no salary could be paid till September. In this situation, they seek the cooperation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Speaking to Mofazzal Mridha, director of administration of the college, on the phone, he said, “Our private colleges are run with the admission of students and their fees. At present due to Corona we are not getting any student admitted and monthly fees. How will we pay the salary of the teaching and other staff. We had some money in our fund and paid 50% of the salary in March.”
