Poll begins at Jamalganj amid tight security

Poll for the election of Upazila Parishad of Jamalganj upazila under Sunamganj district begins amid tight security.  This vote casting will continue from 9 am to 5 pm without any break on Tuesday. Amit Pandit, presiding officer at Haji Kalagaji Government Primary School informs that 200 votes were cast within one hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Rezaul Karim Shamim a neutral party candidate at the vote centre, said,   “The poll is going on peacefully and the forces are  maintaining the law and order situations very strictly, if this strict system is maintained  and is continued to the last, then I am hundred percent hopeful of winning the election.”

Three candidates for the seat of the upazila chairman, and seventeen male and female candidates are contesting for the seat of vice-chairman. This pole is being held at 46 vote centres in the upazila. In this connection, Police forces, BGB and RAB have been deployed for maintaining law and order situation.

In addition, Mobile Courts under five Executive Magistrates are active there.  On top of it, one Judicial Magistrate, Superintendents of police, and Additional Superintendents of police are also there to  ensure  security and normal law and order situation. It is learnt that there are more tha 1 lakh and 12 thousand voters in the upazila for which 46 presiding officers, 287 assistant presiding officers, and 574 polling officers are engaged there.

Arshed Ali upazila election officer said, “All measures have been taken to hold a free and fair election. And we are working to ensure the presence of the voters at the vote centrs.” Prianka Pal upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Returning Officer said, “All possible measures have been taken to hold a peaceful election”.
