Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has warned that strict legal action will be taken against those who harass home-bound passengers by collecting extra fares on public transport during Eid.

At the same time, adequate security measures will be taken to control crime in the empty Dhaka during the Eid holidays, said IGP.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) said this on Friday at a prize distribution ceremony among the Azan, Kirat, and essay competition winners at the Police Central Jame Masjid in Rajarbagh.

IGP Abdullah Al-Mamun said, “As we have successfully ensured the passengers' safe journey in other years, we will provide the passengers' safe journey this time as well. The policemen will work to ensure the safe journey of the Eid travellers; if necessary, they will waive their leave.” “If anyone tries to collect extra fare from the passengers,” the IGP urged them to call National Emergency Service-999 or the concerned police station for assistance. The police boss said, “I would request the general passengers not to take any risky journey. We held several coordination meetings. Through these meetings, we completed the coordination work.”

“We will brief DIGs on different ranges, including Dhaka. DMP Commissioner will coordinate Dhaka Metropolis. Naval Police, Railway Police, Tourist Police, and Highway Police are making their preparations to make the Eid journey safe and risk-free. Besides, the district police are also preparing,” he added.

IGP said, “Eid holiday will be a little longer this time. That is why tourist places can be crowded with visitors. So we are taking our plan to ensure overall safety.” About the development of the government, he said the government is doing multifaceted development; the roads have become wide. For example, Chandra had only one road. Now, the road is widened, and diversions have also been made. The road system of the whole country has improved a lot. For these reasons, I hope we can reach the common passengers safely and smoothly on Eid. Also, I hope everyone's Eid journey will be completed on time.
