Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked police to gain peoples’ trust and promised her government will continue to extend its all-out support to turn the police department as a world standard law enforcement agency. The premier said this while inaugurating a six-day Police Week-2023 in the capital’s Rajarbagh Police Lines on Wednesday.

Country’s most political parties including the ruling Awami League and Jatiya Party have already taken preparation for the next general election. Various evil forces are coming in the field making a plan of creating chaos across the country ahead of the national election. They have also a plan to make our country unstable. Different banned militant groups are set to come out from their dens to join hands with the BNP-Jamaat clique in order to put the government in an odd position.

They are now out to deteriorate the law-and-order situation in order to create panic among people. So, the cops must work with more dedication this year for the welfare of the people and provide them safety and security and take coordinated security measures for smooth and peaceful passing of this current crucial year.

Many people allegedly fall victim to

corruption, humiliation and

harassment in most of the police

stations across the country

Police have an obligation to perform their duties according to the rules and regulations of the country. If anyone tries to worsen the law-and-order situation, appropriate action must be taken against him or her immediately.

We believe our cops will build themselves as perfect and smart members of law enforcement agencies by moving forward with sacrificing mind leaving personal interest and greed. Police have already set exemplary standard of bravery and commitment, endangering their lives in the past one year. But, the fact is that cops are considered the most corrupt among all departments and sectors.

Many people allegedly fall victim to corruption, humiliation and harassment in the most of the police stations across the country. All know police station is established to ensure security of common people. Therefore, authorities concerned and the ACC, the anti-graft watchdog of the country, assigned to curb corruption from Bangladesh, must gear up its activities and strengthen capacity to deal with such cops.

Corruption, irregularities and mismanagement still exist everywhere in different forms, creating a suffocating situation in the all police stations. As the many ‘big fishes’ behind all illegal businesses and activities in police department have not been brought to book yet, the criminals are being encouraged to become like dons.

If the cops who have amassed huge wealth are brought to book, they will not dare commit such crime wearing uniform. Otherwise, Sheikh Hasina’s efforts to make cops a friendly force as envisioned by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will go in vain.
