‘Police ready to face challenge’

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said police were working to counter the countrywide terrorism,  crush the militancy,  free the coastal areas of the country from the menace of pirates, conduct drive against drugs and to maintain law and order in the country. 

He also said the government is always active to gradual up-gradation of the police by turning it as a smart, sophisticated technology-based force with the addition of new-vehicles, development of infrastructure and the increase of manpower as well as the number of police stations. As a result, police forces were ready to face any challenge.

The minister was addressing as the President of the function of the Passing Out Parade of the one-year-long Fundamental Training of the Probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police of 37 batches at Police Academy in Sardah of Rajshahi on Sunday. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also joined the functions of the Passing Out Parade as the Chief Guest through video conferencing from her official residence Ganobhaban. The PM also visited the parade and took salute at the function through video conferencing. Addressing to the newly incepted police officials, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, the knowledge that the novice police officials gained about the process of operation of the police, various ingredients and characteristics of crimes and the prevailing rules of the country will remain as their future-milestone. 

In favour of the Prime Minister, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan handed over prizes among the Superintendent of Polices who were best performers in various fields. 

The winners of the prizes are: the Best Shooter and best Performer Abul Hossain, the Best in Horsemanship Faziul Islam and Academic and best Probationer Sneha Shersa Kumar Das. A total of 97 Assistant Superintendent of Police including 13 female police participated to the parade. 

The welcome speech the Passing Out parade was delivered by the Senior Secretary of Public Security division of the Ministry of Home Mostafa Kamal Uddin and IGP of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed. The function was attended, among others, by State Minister of Foreign Affairs Shariar Alam, Member of Parliament of Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) Engineer Enamul Haque, Reserved seat MP Adiba Anjum Mita, and President of Nari Kallyan Samity of Police Jishan Mirja. 

IGP Dr Benazir Ahmed in his speech said, Bangladesh is progressing with an undeterred pace of development. The changing socio-economic structure and the changing scenario have added new challenges. We are regularly facing new global challenged and Bangladesh Police are facing all those new challenges of globalisation and the industrialisation in which the novice police officials are now participants. He requested the police officials to exploit the knowledge and efficiency they earned through training as a bright example of professionalism, co-operation and humanity. 

IGP further mentioned, in the present, sharp changing social system, the characteristics, mode and nature of crimes are also changing adding new ingredients. That is why, he directed them to achieve professional perfectionism through regular study and training to assign their duties with sincerity and truthfulness. He called them to work for the suffering and tortured humanity.
