Cops launched 15-day special drive across the country to maintain law and order ahead of the victory day. The law enforcers have started conducting raids across the country from Thursday to keep the crime situation under control.

The police headquarters issued the instructions signed by an additional deputy inspector general asking all the units to report back to the headquarters from 10:00am Friday. The letter reads that a decision of conducting a special drive until 15 December has been taken to make the festival of victory day, Christmas and Happy New Year safe and secured.

Cops have been asked to conduct special operations between December 1 and December 15 and raid hotels, dormitories, hostels, community centres and other institutions in search of terrorists, criminals, drug dealers, illegal arms holders, and suspects with arrest warrants, according to media reports.

We appreciate the government’s

decision to launch

nationwide drive during

the month of victory

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her recent meeting with the cabinet members discussed the overall security, asking them to put on alert to avert any untoward incident. Apart from the special drive, security has also been beefed up in all under construction mega projects and key point installations (KPIs) in order to keep them safe and secure. Besides, stringent security measures have been taken to thwart any evil plans by the vested elements. Earlier, the government issued a red alert at all entry and exit points of the country to arrest the death row convicts who escaped from the court premises.

Various elements especially anti liberation and communal forces led by BNP-Jamaat clique are now out to create chaos while the militant organisations are also trying stage show down ahead of the victory day and the next national polls as well. It has been noticed that different vested quarters and communal forces are mounting up ahead of the next national polls and they can unleash a ‘reign of terror’ across the country anytime whenever they will get any scope. Besides, notorious criminals have also started coming out of their respective hideouts as the national election is approaching.

We appreciate the government's decision to launch nationwide drive during the month of victory. But the police must remain careful so that innocent people are not harassed and tortured during their duties. We hope being imbued with the essence of the War of Independence the cops will be accomplishing their delegated responsibilities for maintenance of law and order with utmost professionalism and great courage.
