Police constable withdrawn from duty

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police withdrew constable Md Shahinur Rahman from duty for his alleged misbehavior with a private television journalist while on professional duty on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP Faruq Hossain on Monday confirmed it.

“We have already withdrawn and closed constable Shahinur to the respective police line. Departmental action will be taken against him,” the DC added.

Sayed Arman, journalist of Nagorik TV and also a member of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU), was broadcasting live the resignation of BNP MPs in from of the parliament. Suddenly constable Md Shahinur Rahman took away his microphone. He also obstructed the journalist in performing his duties.

DRU President Mursalin Nomani and General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel condemned the incident on behalf of the DRU Executive Committee.

The DRU leaders had also demanded the authorities to investigate the matter and take action against the cop. They called upon the police authority to cooperate with journalists while they perform their duties.
