Police constable detained with 35,000 pieces of Yaba in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar Department of Narcotics Control detained a police constable along with 35,000 pieces of yaba tablet from Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.

The CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver who was transporting him was also detained with the charge of helping Jahangir Alam in smuggling the drugs.

The detainees were identified as Jahangir Alam, 50, constable of Dhaka Judge Court, son of Abu Bakkar Siddique, resident of Mogolturla area in Muktagacha Thana of Mymensingh, and CNG-run auto rickshaw driver Shamsul Alam, 32, son of Amir Hossain, resident of Uttar Pukuria area under Rajapalong union in Ukhiya upazila.

Assistant Director of Cox’s Bazar Department of Narcotics Control Md Sirajul Mostofa said acting on a tip-off, a search was conducted in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Jhilongjha union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila. The passenger identified himself as a police constable at that time. A total of 35,000 pieces of yaba tablet were found from his possession after searching his bag. The CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Shamsul was also detained for helping him carrying the drugs.

He said after the primary investigation, a case was filed against them with Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station. The police constable was on duty in Dhaka District Court. Earlier, he worked as APBn member at Kutubpalong refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar for a long time, said the Assistant Director.
