Police-BNP clash in Ctg, 20 arsonists nabbed

BNP's leaders clashed with the police over a protest march called by the central government against the increase in electricity prices.  Meanwhile, a massive clash took place with a traffic policeman setting a motorbike on fire;  At least 10 policemen were injured.

 Later, additional force was deployed and the police arrested 20 BNP leaders and activists from the surrounding area.  BNP's assembly also became corrupt).

 The incident took place when Kazi was going to the party office of BNP from Dewri area on Monday afternoon around 3 o'clock.

Eyewitnesses said that the pre-announced protest rally was going on in front of the party office in Nasimon Bhavan.  BNP leaders and activists were going to the party office on Noor Ahmad Road with a procession to attend the rally.  As soon as the procession reached the Kazi Dewri junction, it attacked the police stationed there.  A chase and counter-chase ensued between the two sides.  Meanwhile, activists set fire to a motorbike of the traffic police on the pavement.  At least 10 policemen were injured in the attack by BNP activists as the number of policemen was low in the beginning. Later, the police brought a large number of forces and brought the situation under control.  Traffic was halted in the entire area for half an hour.  Around 4 pm, the police started raids around Kazi Dewri.  BNP arrested 20 activists in the raid.  Not only that;  When a district police vehicle passed in front of Radisson Blu, BNP activists also attacked there.  A policeman was seriously injured.  During this time, several cars of ordinary passengers including police boxes, journalists were vandalized. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Mostafizur Rahman said, "BNP's procession attacked the police for no reason.  Cars vandalized and set on fire.  Many of our policemen were injured.  After bringing in additional forces, the situation came under control. 

 The operation is ongoing.  So far 20 people have been arrested

 Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Atiqur Rahman, TI Biplab Sarkar was injured.

 However, the convener of Nagar BNP, Dr Shahadat Hossain, claimed that the police had prevented the peaceful assembly.  The Juba Dhal was coming with a procession from Kazi Deuri area of the city to take part in the rally.  But by blocking the procession, the Youth Dal, Swechchasebak Dal leaders and activists lathi-charged them.  15 of our activists were injured.  Many of them are in serious condition.  The police attacked us to disrupt our series of programs.
