Six employees of Morning Sun-5 Launch were arrested in connection with the death of Awami League (AL) leader Duronto Biplob, whose body was recovered from the Buriganga river on November 12.

The employees were arrested during a raid at Keraniganj on Saturday, said Deputy Commissioner (DB-Lalbagh Division) of DMP Mashiur Rahman at a press conference at Dhaka Metropolitan Police's media centre.

They are Masters of the launch Hafej Md Saidur Rahman, 38, and Alamin, 35, Engine Drivers Md Masud Rana, 38, and Imon Hossain, 23, quartermaster Md Salman, 21, and Supervisor Ibrahim Khalil, 29.

The body of Biplob was found floating in the river in Narayanganj's Fatullah on Saturday, five days after he went missing.

A farmer by profession, he was a member of the agriculture and cooperatives sub-committee of the Awami League. He was also the former General Secretary of Jahangirnagar University's BCL unit.

After autopsy, doctors said Biplob was murdered as there were injury marks in his chest and head.

"We primarily found he was murdered," Mohammad Mofijuddin Nipun, medical officer of Narayanganj General Hospital, told journalists earlier.
