Police arrested four leaders and activists of the Jubo League and Chhatra League in Rupganj on Tuesday afternoon for their alleged involvement in planning to enforce a lockdown called by the Awami League.

The arrests took place at a sand field inside the Home Town City complex in the Karatia area of Bholab Union.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Amir Hossain (45), Vice-President of Bholab Union Jubo League for Ward No. 8; Gaffar Mollah, Organizing Secretary of Ward No. 8 Jubo League; Rifat Ahmed Ami of Tarabo Municipality Ward No. 7 Chhatra League; and Siraj Mia, a leader of Bholata Union Labor League.

Tariqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station, stated that the group was arrested during a secret meeting to prepare for the Awami League's lockdown program scheduled for November 13. "They were planning to create an unstable environment by causing chaos in the country. Each of them was previously involved in terrorist activities during the anti-discrimination student movement," the OC said.

He added that legal procedures are underway to produce the arrested individuals before a court.
