Deer poaching continues in the Eastern Sundarbans. On Monday morning, forest guards caught a poacher red-handed while setting traps in the Kochikhali wildlife sanctuary. Two others managed to escape.

According to forest officials, a patrol team led by Forester Dilip Majumder spotted three men preparing traps in the Sukpara canal area. Upon seeing the guards, the poachers fled. One, identified as Ariful Islam Dulal (40) from Korailya village in Patharghata, Barguna, was captured.

The team recovered 300 deer-snaring traps, knives, saws, and other tools from the site. Poaching activity remains high in Kochikhali, Sukpara, and Chandeshwar areas, now considered poaching hotspots.

Sharankhola Range Officer ACF Rana Dev said a forest case was filed and the arrested poacher was sent to Bagerhat court.
