PM to inaugurate Bangabandhu Water Treatment Plant today

Khulna Water Supply and Sewerage Authorities’ (WASA) newly built Bangabandhu Water Treatment Plant will be inaugurated today (January 26).   Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this water treatment plant through video conference, built at a cost of Tk 700 crore under joint financing of JICA and Bangladesh government. The opening ceremony will start at 10 in the morning.

Khulna WASA sources said the experimental water supply from this project implemented at Samantasena area in Rupsa upazila started in November 2019. Water demand of Khulna city will be met if the water from this project is added to water supply. 

Khulna WASA’s Deputy Managing Director (Engineering) Md. Kamal Uddin Ahmed said the daily demand of water in Khulna city is 24 crore liters. Samantasena Bangabandhu Water Treatment Plant will add around 11 crore liters of water every day. Khulna WASA is now capable of supplying 75% of the water needed in the city, he added.
