Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has provided financial assistance of Tk 1 crore 63 lakh 50 thousand for the sanitation workers of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) ahead of Eid.
The cheque was handed over to CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain on Friday evening at the political office of the BNP Chairperson in Gulshan of Dhaka.
During the event, cheques were also distributed among mayors and administrators of different city corporations across the country.
It was announced at the programme that a total of 3,270 sanitation workers employed under Chattogram City Corporation will receive the financial assistance. Each worker will get Tk 5,000 as Eid support.
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said sanitation workers play a vital role in keeping the port city clean through their tireless efforts. He said the financial support would inspire and encourage them in their work.
The mayor also mentioned that initiatives have been taken to construct residential housing facilities for sanitation workers, which would contribute significantly to improving their living standards and help transform Chattogram into a cleaner and more modern city.
He further noted that similar financial assistance had also been provided to sanitation workers during Eid-ul-Fitr earlier this year as a gesture of respect and solidarity.
Among others present at the cheque handover ceremony were Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, administrators of different city corporations, and senior government officials.
