Vested quarter led by military dictator Ziaur Rahman, who assassinated Bangabandhu in 1975, tried to destroy Awami League (AL) by killing its president Sheikh Hasina with grenades on an anti-terrorism rally at Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21 in 2004. They had thought it was all over but after the return of Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, they realised that Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana would certainly finish the unfinished works of Bangabandhu.

More than 20 attempts, including grenade attacks, were made to kill AL President Sheikh Hasina. Those who planned the attack made every effort to kill her. So, it is clear to all Sheikh Hasina’s security remains at the highest risk.

All the members of different law enforcement and intelligence agencies especially the SSF assigned to provide security to the prime minster will have to be developed as modern forces amid the changing patterns of crimes.

Dictator Zia and his family were the most beneficiaries of Bangabandhu’s assassination. Later, Tarique Rahman, the exiled eldest son of Zia and jailed Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia also followed his father’s footsteps and hatched a dark plot in a bid to kill Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina using state machinery.

The August 21 grenade attack was a part of continuous conspiracy as per the master plan that started since August 15, 1975 with killing Bangabandhu to reverse independence and erase spirit of the War of Liberation. The attack was aimed at making bankrupt the AL and Bangladesh in leadership and stopping democratic process and establishing autocracy and militancy.

Our Bangladesh is safe as it is in the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. If our country goes to some other hands, the incidents of killings in the country will surface again, deviating from the right track and it will become champion in corruption again. So, there should be no compromise with the security of Sheikh Hasina.

Security measures for her (Sheikh Hasina) must be dealt with carefully in the future. Apart from the law enforcement agencies, we believe being imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation, the pro-democratic and patriotic people are always there to standby to save their beloved leader Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina at any cost.
