In a recorded speech broadcast at the 8th Extraordinary Islamic Summit kicking off in Riyadh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed five recommendations to stop the brutal Israeli aggression against Palestine that continues unabated despite calls from global communities for an immediate end.

National dailies and news agencies detailed Sheikh Hasina’s recommendations in this regard. We highly appreciate Sheikh Hasina’s time-befitting recommendations to stop the bloody war.

More than 11,000 people, mostly civilians and majority of them children were killed in the Gaza-Israel conflict. Different countries in the world called for an end to the "carnage" in Gaza. To the contrary, it is creating a new generation of aggrieved Palestinians who are likely to continue the cycle of violence.

The war in the densely populated coastal territory, which is effectively sealed off, has prompted repeated calls for a ceasefire to protect civilian lives and allow in more humanitarian aid. Tens of thousands of people have fled to the south of the territory in recent days, often on foot and with only the things the could carry.

Bold leadership

 is required right

 now in this regard

Over half a million displaced people have crammed into hospitals and U.N. schools-turned-shelters in the south. The schools — overcrowded, strewn with trash, swarmed by flies — have become a breeding ground for infectious diseases.

Kids are crying because they are hungry and tired and can not use the bathroom. But, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed back Saturday against growing international calls for a cease-fire, saying Israel’s battle to crush Gaza’s ruling Hamas militants will continue with “full force.”

It is about time that all of us together stand by them and help them realize their justified demand. Women and children suffer the most in war, and young men give their lives.

Bangladesh believes in peace and opposes all kinds of war and occupation of other countries. When the world is going through tough times, Sheikh Hasina’s call may unite the international community to prevent and end the conflict.

We are seeing that trust is crumbling, inequalities are exploding and our planet is burning. But, if the world leaders take the issue seriously and hold discussions in order to find a way out to end the war at any cost, we people will be able to overcome the crisis.

Therefore, bold leadership is required right now in this regard. The world leaders must pay heed to Sheikh Hasina’s call and take collective efforts to stop the war.
