An 11and half-year-old schoolboy named Uttam Biswas was killed when miscreants bombed a BCL procession during a 1989 program marking Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day.

When the incident came to the notice of the then Leader of the Opposition Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, she visited Chattogram on January 25 of that year and stood by the family and promised that any child of Amal Kanti would be provided with a job if he or she was fit.

In the light of this, Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury handed over the appointment letters to Amal Kanti Biswas's two children Sulekha Biswas and Manoj Biswas. They got jobs as a Health Assistant and Computer Operator of the City Corporation on Thursday ahead of Bangabandhu's birth centenary. The mayor said that our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is fulfilling her highest humanitarian duty.

Following this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking steps for the rehabilitation and employment of all the families who have contributed to the struggle and sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War.  She has also taken initiatives to provide housing and employment to the homeless in Mujib Year, he said.

She continues to provide humanitarian assistance to marginalized people, even when the wheels of the global economy are stagnant, the mayor added.

Patharghata ward councilor Pulak Khastgir, CCC chief executive officer Kazi Muhammad Mozammel Haque and the mayor's personal secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem were present on the occasion.
