While addressing a press conference at her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital Dhaka, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Awami League will not sell any resource of the country to come to power. She also questioned does the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) want to come to power by giving guarantee to sell Saint Martin’s island?.
BNP came to power in 2001 by giving undertaking to sell gas and now does the party want to sell the country? People, who were against the country’s independence, awarded the killers of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and become the advocate of democracy after hijacking it.
The countrymen believe that Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina will never grab the state power by selling any resource of this country.
It should be mentioned that the then US President Bill Clinton had pressed her (Sheikh Hasina) to sell natural gas to the United States. Clinton was the first US president to visit Bangladesh in 2000, when the Hasina-led administration was in office.

The US president himself requested Sheikh Hasina to sell natural gas to his country. Later he came to Dhaka and Sheikh Hasina’s reply was, “I want to use the resources for the country’s people first”. She faced the same question during her US visit afterwards. And her reply was the same.
We know an ‘international conspiracy’ to gain control over Bangladesh’s natural gas led to her party's defeat in the 2001 elections. The BNP assumed power through the eighth parliamentary election, riding on 41.4 percent of votes that helped it win 193 parliamentary seats.
Its ally Jamaat-e-Islami clinched 17 seats with 4.28 percent of votes. Therefore, it is clear that during the rule of Awami League, Bangladesh will not yield to any external pressure and interference as it is an independent and sovereign country.
It has been established in the country that as daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina can not work against the country’s interest. We believe she would not allow any act like carrying out terrorist activities in any place or attacking anyone by using the land of Bangladesh.
Therefore, those who try to play ducks and drakes with the fate of countrymen by creating a constitutional crisis must be dealt with an iron hand.
