The jute sector is being highlighted since the closure of 22 jute mills and the lay-off of around 25 thousand workers. Afterwards, we have been given hope for the positive comeback of the sector through refurbishing the old infrastructure, machinery and equipment for better and modern ones to revitalise the sector once again. However, it is yet to be seen whether any concrete steps have been taken to this end.

This persuades one to assume that there hasn’t been any significant progress in the resurgence of the sector with new vigour, as people were given the hope of in the first place. It is no denying the fact that jute sector is such a crucial one for the country and steps are being taken to modernise the sector, but it is taking place at a very slow pace. In this regard, the silver lining in all this is the fact that recently the farmers were able to sell off jute at a fair price. This augurs well as it will give a better chance for farmers to be encouraged in jute farming.
Above all, the best possible solution to this crisis is more jute farming acreage and larger export. There is massive demand of jute-based products abroad which must be exploited for its growth. And since the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has repeatedly focussed on the issue of sustainable development of the country, progress made in the jute sector will prove beneficial for not only the farmers and mill workers but also work to encourage the youth in getting into the sector.
