Homeless Santals, an ethnic minority group, are delighted as hundreds of semi-pucca houses have been allotted for them as the gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The initiative of the government is highly praised as some 3,500 families of the Santals are getting new houses in phases in Mujib Borsho.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that no people in Bangladesh will remain homeless. The government is firm to meet the basic needs, including accommodation, for all.

Hundreds of thousands of landless and homeless people have already got houses from the government.

Some 50 Santal families at Changuria village under Kamdia union of Gobindaganj Upazila in Gaibandha now own land and house with the help of the government.

The 50 houses are surrounded by a pond so the people of the houses can use the water for washing and other purposes.

The Santals expressed their satisfaction and gratefulness to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the life-changing gift.

Earlier on January 23 this year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gifted some 66,189 houses to poor and homeless people.

The initiative of the Prime Minister has set an example of love and humanity for the people in the world.
