PM reveals the whole truth

Zia betrayed the independence

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday revealed some important information about the dubious role of General Zia which are completely based on investigation and court observations. These allegations were being raised at different discussions and debates too, but ironically the BNP had never tried to refute those allegations.Having been failed to refute those allegations by any rules of substantial logic BNP secretary general has, instead abruptly, started talking against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a very indecent and discourteous  manner.

It is no denying that the people of Bangladesh has so much to be proud of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she has by dint of her tireless and relentless work greatly enhanced the prestige of Bangladesh. She has been globally acclaimed for  her acts and greatness. The international community has shown a great respect to her because of her steps towards humanity and global peace. It was known  to all that Bangladesh has been lagging behind its desired development goal for long and the country was identified with some negative words. It was Sheikh Hasina who created a new and positive image of the country and introduced Bangaldesh as a development role model to the global community. Not only the people of Bangladesh ,but also the country’s development partners unequivocally remark that if Bangladesh keeps carrying on with this pace of progress for another ten years under Sheikh Hasina, it will emerge as an indomitable nation in all respects.  Everybody respects her and has a trust in her capability, but a section of people can’t see anything good in her work out of envy.

The allegation she raised against Zia are still pertinent. What Sheikh Hasina has said is true and it is the whole truth. It has been proved by the country’s higher court that Zia was directly involved in the killing of  the father of the nation. Zia usurped sate power by brandishing arms. Zia was oath-bound, taking the Holy Koran in hand, to protect the people  of Bangladesh and the President of the republic even at the cost of his life. Zia betrayed the Holy Koran, people, the People’s Republic, and the president of the republic. He was supposed to arrest the killers when they went to him to seek his support. But instead of doing it, he encouraged them. Zia destroyed four state principles achieved through the Liberation War  in which millions of people had laid down their lives for achieving those sate Principles. Not only that, in the name of  flushing out his opponents in the army, he conspicuously managed to stage several coups in the army and had killed hundreds of officers and soldiers who took part in the Liberation War. He did not have a bit of  sympathy for the freedom fighters. These allegations are proved  several times, in various forms and documents.  Moreover, Zia wanted to turn Bangladesh into East Pakistan. He introduced ‘Bangladesh Zindabad’ replacing  Joybangla which was the main source of inspiration for the freedom fighters. If a sector commander can replace this slogan, does he have a bit of respect for the Liberation War?

Nobody can save Zia from the judgement of history as he betrayed the nation, he betrayed the spirit of the Liberation War, and he betrayed the martyr’s blood. He betrayed the real cause of the nation.

Fakrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of BNP  is supposed to be aware of Zia’s anti-liberation activities during his military rule. He, of course, will try to defend Zia, but there must be logic to defend a person  widely accused.  It has been a long practice by most of the political leaders to defend their leaders without knowing the truth. Actually their main objective is to keep their position intact by resorting to illogical and untrue issues. Because they will not be able to retain their party position without the help of their big boss as the party is no longer run by its council. And that’s why they fight for baseless issues. So, they usually oppose merely for the sake of opposing the others.

It is known to all that courtesy costs nothing. Courtesy is strictly maintained and practised by the diplomats, but the politicians should also practise it because they are no less than real diplomats. I would not say that the leaders should be the worshipper of the truth and beauty, though that was the main criteria of being a political leader in the Indian subcontinent, but they will have to maintain a certain level of self- respect so that our posterity would emulate them in a healthy atmosphere. .

Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said, “What does BNP know about democracy? What Ziaur Rahman gave the nation was a democracy of curfew. Ziaur Rahman himself was the driving force behind the assassination of Bangabandhu on August 15. The conspiracy could never have been materialized without his cooperation, because he was the Deputy Chief of Army Staff at that time.”

She said, Bangabandhu had promoted Ziaur Rahman from the position of Major to Major General. But that Zia conspired with the murderers Mushtaq, Colonel Rashid and Farooq. When killer Mushtaq illegally declared himself President, he also made Ziaur Rahman the Chief of Army Staff. This Zia later removed Mushtaq and made Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem President. Sayem was the first Chief Justice of Bangladesh from 1972 to 1975.

The Prime Minister further said that Zia was the army chief on the one hand and the President of the country on the other. Earlier, Pakistan's military dictator Ayub Khan had set such an example.

Criticizing the BNP, the Prime Minister said the BNP is a party that was created by a military junta who had illegally occupied state power. Ziaur Rahman was the main force behind the plot to assassinate Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August15. This was clear from interviews of the killers Colonel Rashid and Farooq given to the BBC.

After coming to power at gun point, Ziaur Rahman had detained majority of the leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Awami League and killed many senior leaders, she said.
