Hridoy Roy of Karshavya Gotra, a small ethnic group who has also got shelter in the Asrayan Project at Char Pogaldigha Pogaldigha Union used to live in rented huts on the railway land adjacent to the railway line behind Sarishabari Hospital with his family.  Sometimes the railway authorities would demolish the house and evict them. During the rainy season, they used to have knee-deep water in their houses along the railway line for which they have to face various water borne diseases. They had to take shelter in other places during the flood. But now he has no worries after getting the gift house of the Prime Minister. He has now his own house on his own land and getting safe drinking water and other utilities facility.

Moyna belongs to the third gender community. She said, “One day I got a call from the office of the Upazila Project Implementation Officer. We went there. Then their lives changed like a dream. On the centenary of Mujib's birth, they received nine semi pacca houses as a gift from the Prime Minister. We haven't had a house so far. People in the society used to look down on us. Many did not want to rent us house. I had to live in a rented house next to the railway line. But now we don't have to stay in someone else's house. Now I have my own house, a place to stay. I have planted fruit, gourd and other trees here.”

Nurjahan Begum is a poor, helpless and landless woman. After marriage, she got divorced due to lack of money. From then on, the life of struggle started with her two sons. She has nothing. Sometimes she builds huts on other people’s lands and sometimes on the side of the road. She never had electricity and safe water and toilet facilities. By working as a housemaid in someone else's house, her family somehow survives. Her boys could not read and write due to financial problem. As a result, he was forced to employ his 12-year-old son Kafi in a hotel. The youngest son Swadhin (08) works for traders in the local market.

In this situation, she got the gift house of the Prime Minister in the Asrayan project. She no longer has to live in a hut on someone else’s land. She now has electricity and safe water system. Now his only dream is to get his two sons educated and establish them in the society with the help of his government.

In addition to the helpless people, we are working to provide houses and land to the disabled, widows and landless. We have taken various initiatives to ensure that these helpless people are not left homeless. They are different. We are also working to create employment opportunities. Some are raising goats and chickens while others are cultivating vegetables. We are proud to be a part of this unparalleled work of the Prime Minister.”

Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Commissioner Land Faizul Wasima Nahat said, “We have given shelter to the neglected and real landless people of the society. As a result, their social and economic capabilities, including the field of education, have changed. Prime Minister gift houses bring smile to landless and homeless people face. Apart from improving their standard of living, houses have been built in the names of both men and women. This has created new milestones in women's empowerment.”
