PM declares zero tolerance against drugs, corruption and militancy: Food Minister

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has termed 'drug addiction' as a major problem of the country and said, the drug was destroying the family, society and the country.

He mentioned, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared zero tolerance against drugs, corruption, terrorism and militancy and the government was working to implement her declaration.

The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the programme of destruction of seized drugs by BGB 14 and 16 battalions at the Parade Ground of 16 BGB Battalion on Thursday noon.

Presided over by Colonel Tuhin Mohammad Masud, Sector Commander of BGB, Rajshahi sector, the programme was addressed, among others, by  Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Islam, Commander of BGB 16 battalion, Naogaon, Lieutenant Colonel Zahid Hasan, Commander of 14 BGB Patnitola battalion and Farzana Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police of Naogaon.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said, today youths are the future leaders of this country that is why the youngsters of the country should be freed from the grip of drugs. A social movement was necessary to get rid the youngmen of the country from the grip of drugs and the country from the grip of terrorism and corruption. He praised the role of BGB for its activities to guard the frontiers of the country through facing various encumbrances.

After the programme, various seized drugs including 801 bottles of wine, 15,641 bottles of Phensedyl, 25 kilogrammes of Canabis, 155 pieces of Yaba, 25 grams of heroin, 15 pieces of Tapenta, 344 ampoules of sedatives, 47 bottles of drugs, 146 litres of local brew and one bottle of insecticides were destroyed.
