PM announces prize money for SAFF champions

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced prize money for the SAFF U-16 women’s champions. Bangladesh women's football team’s winning streak in this age group continued in the SAFF Football Championship. The U-19 women's football team won the tournament last month. Continuing their dominance in SAFF age-level tournaments, the U-16 team clinched the trophy at the ANFA Sports Complex in Lalitpur, Nepal, on Sunday.

Congratulating the girls on Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “Bangladesh became champion, beating India by three goals. I will invite them and give prize money to encourage them in the future.”

PM Sheikh Hasina is a sports lover, and she has a reputation for supporting sportspeople. The prime minister often announces prize money and facilitates players’, organizers to motivate them to do well in the future as well.

Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hasan Papon congratulated the U-16 football team, which became champions in the SAFF football championship after defeating India by 3-2 in a tiebreaker. The match was a 1-1 draw in the 90-minute stipulated time.

Papon said, “Women U-16 clinched the trophy as Bangladesh achieved another success in football.”

“The U-16 team performed well in the whole tournament, and they were unbeaten. They thrashed Bhutan by 6-0 goals before the final match.

 The Arpita Biswas side defeated title contender India; that is a great victory for the Bangladesh team,” said Papon.

Bangladesh maintained an all-win record to reach the final after beating Nepal, India, and Bhutan by 2-0, 3-1, and 6-0 goals in the round-robin league stage.

Meanwhile, the Champions team returned home at 3 p.m. on Monday.
