Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday urged all the residents of Pirganj upazila to turn their upazila into a smart one.
“Pirganj is a part of our self identity. Unfinished works of the upazila will be completed in the upcoming days,” she said while addressing an annual general meeting and picnic 2024 of Pirganj (Rangpur) Samity, Dhaka held at a resort in Sonargaon in Naryanganj.
Dr Shirin said the arrangement of the Pirganj Samity was actually a reunion and it strengthened the unity of the people of Pirganj upazila. Pirganj upazila will be turned into a smart upazila during the present government’s tenure, she said.
Later, the speaker unwrapped a souvenir and exchanged views with the members of Pirganj Samity, Dhaka.
The leaders of the samity handed over the book ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib-ke Ghire Kichu Ghotona o Bangladesh’ written by Dr MA Wazed Miah to the Speaker.
Abdullah Al Kaiser, MP, Pirganj municipality mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim and Awami League Pirganj upazila unit vice president Nurul Amin Raza, among others, were present in the programme with samity president ANM Al Firoz in the chair.
