Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently talked about being in demand due to his dusky complexion. He once said he faced rejections at work due to his looks.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is quite vocal about not fitting into the conventionally good-looking actors’ club in Bollywood. In a new interview, he shared that he is in demand due to his dark complexion. He also praised actors Rinku Rajguru and Smita Patil for their on-screen beauty.
Back in 2017, Nawazuddin Siddiqui in an interview with HT said that he has faced rejections a lot of times due to ‘racist people’ in the industry. Interestingly, the actor will be next seen in his film, Noorani Chehre, which comes with a social message on age-old beauty standards in society, including the obsession with fair complexion. It will mark singer and Kriti Sanon’s sister, Nupur Sanon’s Bollywood debut.
When asked if he has overcome the challenges of not being a conventionally good-looking actor in the industry, Nawazuddin told ETimes, “If they need fair people, then they need me as well. I am in demand. Kale rang aaj kal kafi demand hain (Dark skinned people are in demand). The beauty that a camera can capture is very different. That is an honest kind of beauty. If I am honest in front of the camera, the audience won’t realise but even I’ll start looking beautiful.”
“Look at Rinku Rajguru in Sairat. Despite having an unconventional look her presence in the film starts mesmerising you after a few minutes. At one point while watching the film I actually remarked, ‘Yeh ladki kitni khoobsurat hai (How pretty is she)!’. I honestly believe that the camera captured the beauty of Smita Patil like no other Indian actress. According to me, she was the most beautiful actress on camera. I feel the on-screen beauty is very different from real-world beauty,” he also added.
Nawazuddin is known for his indie films. He rose to fame after starring as Faizal Khan in filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 in 2012. He was last seen in Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria’s Heropanti 2, which failed to bring the audience to the theatres.
