A large number of people living in the char area of Mahamudnagar union in Tangail sadar upazila are forced to cross the Dhaleshwari River through the Golchattar area by crowded boats as there is no bridge over river in that area.
This has become a regular struggle for the people who cross the river through that point to go to Tangail district sadar. They face numerous difficulties in transporting patients and goods. Students and jobholders are the most affected, often struggling to find boats on time. Without a bridge, they endure hardships throughout the year, whether it’s summer, winter or rainy season. Many have to walk long distances or use bicycles or motorcycles if they cannot cross the river by boat.
If a bridge is constructed over the rive in that area, it will alleviate the suffering of thousands of people traveling from the char areas. Due to the lack of a bridge over the Dhaleshwari River in the Golchottor area and Mahamudnagar union of Tangail district, thousands are facing extreme hardship. Women, children, and students endure immense difficulties daily while crossing the river by boat. Valuable work hours are wasted, and expenses are incurred. The people of this region are demanding the construction of a bridge to ease their needless hardship.
Lokman Hossain, a local resident, said since the independence, we have only been hearing promises of a bridge to be constructed there. Although many talked about development of the area, no bridge was built over the river in this area till now.
The locals said if a bridge is built there, it would benefit the people of our area. It would improve the quality of life for the villagers. People from Chouhali, Manikganj, and Nagarpur upazilas in Sirajganj travel through this road. A bridge over this river would provide many advantages for transportation.
Upazila Engineer of Tangail Sadar LGED Md Fazlur Rahman said preliminary work has begun for project formulation. After assessing feasibility by senior engineers, it will take additional time to finalize the design, allocate funds, acquire land, invite tenders, and complete other necessary tasks.
