Cox's Bazaar to be relieved of miserable road condition

Cox's Bazaar Municipality Mayor Mujibur Rahman and Cox's Bazar Development Authority Chairman Lieutenant Colonel (retd.) Forkan Ahmed assured that the people of Cox's bazaar would get rid of the poor road condition of the district.

He made this assurance at a civic meeting held on Monday (January 7) at Cox's Bazaar Press Club premises. The meeting was chaired by Abu Taher, President of Cox's Bazaar Journalists' Union and General Secretary of Cox's Bazaar Press Club Imrul Qais.

Speakers at the civic meeting said that the city's main roads were damaged by five percent which are not suitable for traffic and movement of people. The suffering of the people has exceeded the limit. Pregnant women in particular are in serious trouble to move through the road. Due to the poor and dilapidated road condition, tourists are turning away from Cox's Bazaar. Therefore, irrespective of party affiliation, everyone has come down demanding repair of the roads.

Speakers at the meeting also said, "We are no longer willing to listen to assurances, demanding immediate road repair. Otherwise people will be forced to take to the streets."

Speakers at the meeting also said that millions of crores of Taka being regularly collected from the tourists and others sectors in Cox's Bazaar. But, people of Cox's bazaar are not being benefitted from this income.  They want to ensure civic benefits of the people of Cox's Bazaar.

Speakers at the meeting added that the highest level of government is very sincere in the development of Cox's Bazar. But there is no development due to the lack of coordination among various sectors. All must sit unanimously to achieve a common goal.

Cox's Bazar Municipality Mayor Mujibur Rahman said tender has already been invited road renovation. An additional Tk one crore tender is under process. Within next six months, the road scenario of the municipality of Cox's Bazar will be changed.

Cox's Bazar Development Authority Chairman Lt. Colonel (retd) Forkan Ahmed said, " I feel that people are in misery due to poor road conditions including the main road,  Within short time I shall remove the sufferings of the people in this connection."

He said tenders were under process for permanent renovation work on the main road.
