Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mominur Rahman said necessary measures would be taken if anyone leaves the house unnecessarily. Action will be taken against rented vehicles on the road too.
He said if other business establishments including hotels and restaurants are kept open in defiance of government orders, the establishments will be sealed and they would have to pay double fines.
DC informed about these decisions at a press briefing at Chattogram Circuit House on Tuesday morning.
A joint operation was launched in the city this morning with members of RAB, police, BGB and Ansar forces led by 16 executive magistrates, including 14 from the district administration and 2 from the BRTA.
The government has extended the lockdown period to July 14 to keep people at home to prevent coronary infections.
DC said corona infections are on the rise due to non-compliance with 100% health rules with mask wear.
In the last 24 hours, 9 coronas have died and 662 people have been infected in Chattogram. The district administration's drive to enforce the ban continues after the cabinet announced a week-long strict lockdown from July 1. We want to keep people at home.
But without fear of corona infection, they are leaving the house without any excuse or need. Other institutions including hotels and restaurants are being kept open by the administration. There is no opportunity to give them an excuse in the joint campaign.
Chattogram DC said, Banks and financial institutions were closed from July 1-4. After the opening of these institutions from July 5, people are leaving their homes on the pretext of withdrawing money and other false allegations. Corona infection is increasing day by day due to people gathering. To make the people aware, the district administration has started a campaign in the alleys of the city by putting mics in 6 vehicles. Corona prevention will be communicated to people through miking every day from morning to evening. Pedestrians will also be fined if they go out on the road without urgent need. If we all work together, we will be able to implement a strict lockdown.
