PCR lab inaugurated at Khanpur corona hospital

50 more test positive in Narayanganj

After long awaiting the expected PCR lab for corona testing was inaugurated in Khanpur 300-bed dedicated Corona hospital in Narayanganj town on Wednesday noon.

In the inauguration ceremony AKM Selim Osman, MP from Narayanganj-5 constituency, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jasimuddin, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Imtiaz, district Corona prevention committee’s spokesperson Dr. Jahidul Islam, municipal ward-12 councillor Sawkat Hashem Shoku and Resident Physician of the hospital Dr. Samsuddoha Chaudhury were present.

Earlier Health Department declared Narayanganj as a hotspot and cluster zone of corona virus, 51 COVID-19 patients died immediately in this populous district but there had been insufficiency both in Corona detection and in it’s treatments here.

In 24 hours, 50 more were infected with Corona in the district and with this, the total number reached at 1,123, whereas, the number of recovered and deceased remained unchanged.

Corona dedicated Khanpur 300-bed hospital sources claimed that the full-fledged PCR lab will be operated by a virologist coming from the capital and 4 medical technologists.

Before installing the PCR lab, two Corona sample collections centre were functioning in Narayanganj that only collected Corona samples and which were sent to IEDCR in Dhaka later.

Because of that patients had to wait a long time to get results and about 500 reports are still pending.

Khanpur 300 bed corona dedicated hospital after installation of the PCR lab is now prepared for providing treatment to corona patients with 110 beds in different categories- isolation, ICU, ventilation and flue corners, hospital sources said. 

Citizens of the district are happy that their demand Of a PCR lab has been made and now they will be able to test their sampled in the district instead of the capital.

NCC Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, local law makers, 46 social-political organizations and Narayanganj press club had been demanding for a PCR lab to ease people’s sufferings in Narayanganj earlier.
