PBS staff dies from electrocution

An electrician was electrocuted to death while trying a make new connection from the top of an electric pole to a house at Hatathpara village under Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi on Friday morning. 

The victim was identified as Reazuddin Sheikh, 52, son of Fayez Uddin of Paschimpara village at Bagmara upazila. His body remained hanging for more than two hourd on the pole. Later, the fire service personnel recovered the body and handed over it to his family members.   

Ataur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Bagmara police station, said various parts of Reaz’s body including his brain was burnt due to electrocution. 

Family members of Reaz Uddin said Reaz used to work as a meter reader under PBS, Natore-1 for a long time. Later, he was posted as general employee.

He does not have any training or experience to ride on electric pole and make electric connections to houses and other establishments. But, he was ordered to ride on the electric pole to give new electric connections. They alleged, Reaz Uddin was killed as a result of negligence of the department of electric supply.

Reazul Karim, General Manager of PBS Bagmara regional office, said that Reaz Uddin was a regular staff of PBS under daily payment basis. He does not have idea why he was sent to connect electric lines from a pole with live electric line.
