A patient on the bed of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital has been suffering from a piercing spasm of pain by falling from a cocoanut tree for over a week. The doctors at the hospital said, he needs an immediate operation but no operation has so far been conducted.
The injured person has been identified as Dulal Hossain (40), a bohemian who earned his living by riding on cocoanut tree, plucking cocoanut and cocoanut tree-branches and eating food at hotels in exchange of those branches as firewood and spending nights as he is where.
Dulal was plucking green-cocoanut by riding on a tree belonged to one Ruhul Amin of village Mohanandkhali of Paba upazila when he fell aground from the 30-feet high tree and was injured badly. He was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and was admitted there. Dulal having no family member, Ruhul Amin is taking care of injured Dulal and bearing the cost of his treatment. Doctors informed, his back-bone has been fractured and he requires an immediate operation. But, he is waiting for the serial of his operation while suffering in utter pangs for days.
On Thursday night, Dulal was lying in a bed with an unbearable pain at the veranda of ward-8 of RMCH. He said, ' I am dying in utter pain. Shall I not get any treatment since I have none?'
Ruhul Amin said, since Dulal has no near and dear one and he fell from his tree that is why he was treating him at the hospital. Dulal has no ability to rise from the bed that is why a person has been temporarily posted for his care at a cost of Taka 500 per day. Moreover, Taka 700 is paid daily to a sweeper of the hospital for cleaning the faeces and urine.
So far, he has spent Taka 40,000 for his treatment but the condition of the patient is not improving until the operation of the fractured back-bone is conducted. He further informed, by examining the X-ray report, the on duty doctor said on December-24 that the back-bone of Dulal has been fractured. He requires an operation which is possible at the hospital. Ruhul said, he does not require any monetary assistance but only the serial for the operation.
In this connection, Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, Director of RMCH informed on Friday morning that he was attending a meeting at the ministry in Dhaka and would take measure to operate upon Dulal as soon as possible after returning to Rajshahi at night.
