Parliament to probe Biman irregularities

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry has expressed their dissatisfaction over various irregularities of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Besides, a five-member sub-committee, led by Md Aslamul Haque, was formed to probe the irregularities involving the hiring of an aircraft from Egypt.

The information was revealed at the fourth meeting of the Committee at Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury in the chair in the capital on Wednesday evening. The parliamentary watchdog recommended the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Bangladesh Tourism Board and the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry to work together in celebrating the Mujib Year and also announced a special discount on domestic flights on 17 of every month on the occasion of ‘Mujib Year’ in 2020.

It also recommended establishing exclusive zones in Cox’s Bazar, Kuakata and the Sundarbans aiming to attract foreign tourists. Committee members – State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, Md Aslamul Haque, Kazi Firoze Rashid, Anwar Hossain Khan, Engr Mosharraf Hossain, Sheikh Tonmoy, Asheq Ullah Rafiq and Syeda Rubina Akhtar – were present at the meeting.
