Parents leave newborn in hospital

A couple have fled leaving their newborn girl in the hospital. The incident took place at Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex in Sunamganj. The baby is currently in the hospital.

According to Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex sources, a mane introducing himself as Faruk Mia of Balikandi village in Kalkalia union of the upazila came to the hospital with his pregnant wife Saida Begum on Saturday. In the afternoon, a baby girl was born and she was admitted to the hospital.

At one point in the evening, the child’s parents left the baby in the hospital and fled. No couple with the name could be found by contacting the information given by the couple at the time of hospitalization.

Jagannathpur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Madhusudan Dhar said that the pregnant woman gave birth naturally under the supervision of doctors and nurses at the Upazila Health Complex. At some point, the child’s parents fled leaving the child in the hospital. 

When the matter came to the notice of the doctors and nurses on duty at the hospital, they started searching for them. Later, the matter was reported to Jagannathpur police but the police was not also been able to trace the couple so far. The newborn is being brought up in the health complex.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jagannathpur Police Station Ikhtiyar Uddin Chowdhury said, “I am working to identify the parents of the new-born. However, so far no trace has been found.”

Abdul Hashim, a resident of Balikandi village in Kalkalia Union and chairman of the Union Parishad panel said, searching Balikandi village the existence of the couple could not be found. It seems that her husband admitted the pregnant woman to the hospital providing misinformation.
