Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Md Sayemuzzaman has expressed a firm commitment to transforming the northernmost district—popularly known as the “Daughter of the Himalayas”—into a national model district. He emphasised the vital role of journalists in identifying local problems and supporting timely solutions.

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with journalists on Tuesday in the DC’s conference room, Sayemuzzaman highlighted Panchagarh’s enormous tourism potential and stressed the need to address persistent challenges in education, healthcare, corruption, and drug abuse.

“If you inform me before publishing reports on any issue, I will take immediate steps to resolve it,” he said. “With your cooperation, I aim to eliminate corruption, ensure quality education and healthcare, and make Panchagarh a model district.”

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suman Chandra Das moderated the session. At the outset, the DC politely declined a floral reception for himself and instead offered flowers to the president and general secretary of the Panchagarh Press Club as a gesture of respect.

The DC noted that he previously worked as a journalist, which allows him to understand the profession closely. “I consider myself a colleague of yours. I want to carry out my administrative duties with honesty and dedication,” he said. “If all journalists work collectively to highlight problems and aid development initiatives, we can certainly build Panchagarh into a model district.”

Several journalists also spoke at the meeting, including senior journalists Ehosen Raihan, Shahidul Islam, S.M. Selim, Abdur Rahim, Shah Jalal, Inshan, and female journalists Asma Akter Akhi and Sigdha Niha.
