Palm trees planted in Magura, Noakhali marking Mujib Barsho

One thousand palm saplings are being planted in the coastal area of Noakhali on the initiative of the voluntary organisation Green Bangladesh marking Mujib Barsho.

Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Khorshed Alam officially inaugurated the programme by planting saplings on Mannannagar crossroads-Charjabbar road at 10:30 am on Tuesday.

The leaders of the voluntary organisation said that the initiative was taken on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to make the government's initiative more dynamic in dealing with disasters. They also said that they will plant a few thousand more saplings in the coastal areas of Noakhali in phases.

Sadar Upazila Chairman AKM Samsuddin Jehan, Divisional Forest Officer Bipul Krishna Das, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Farhana Jahan Upoma, Local UP Chairman Ataur Rahman Nasser and Green Bangladesh Executive Director Journalist Manik Miaji were also present at the time.

Welcoming the initiative of Green Bangladesh, the Deputy Commissioner said, palm saplings would be planted in every embankment of the district and various fields through the forest department to save the lives of farmers from landslides.

In Magura, on the occasion of Mujib Barsho local bodybuilding organizmsation ‘Suprabhat Bangladesh' has taken initiative to plant different types of trees including 5,000 palm seeds to prevent lightning. 

Advocate Saifuzzaman Shikhar, MP from Magura-1 constituency, inaugurated the programme at 10 am on Tuesday at the office premises of the Youth Development Department.

Shahidul Islam, Deputy Director of District Youth Development department, Anisur Rahman Khokon, Panel Chairman of Zila Parishad Faruk Reza Jhantu, President of Suprabhat Bangladesh and Khan Shafi Ullah, General Secretary and Alamgir Hossain  were present among others at the time.

Faruk Reza Jhantu, President of Supravhat Bangladesh, said, “On the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary we have taken a programme to plant trees on both sides of different roads in the district to prevent lightning and maintain natural balance”.

Speaking as the chief guest, Saifuzzaman Shikhar MP said, “As per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's announcement one crore trees will be planted across the country in Mujib Barsho. Everyone should not only plant trees but nurture the trees as much as possible. This will enable the trees to make a significant contribution in maintaining the natural balance. He called upon all, including government and non-government organisations, to work together for this purpose”.
