Palli Bidyut Samiti holds online public hearing

The Brahmanbaria Palli Bidyut Samiti (PBS) has held an online public hearing for the first time to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the customers amid the ongoing countrywide shutdown. The hearing was organised by the association through a video conference at 11 am on Tuesday. 

At the hearing, more than a hundred customers presented their views and complaints. Engineer Md Shahjahan Talukder, general manager of PBS gave immediate answers to various questions of the customer. AGM (Member Services) Professor Md Noor Alam conducted the hearing.

The 56-minute public hearing was watched by 2,985 subscribers. In the comments section, 114 different questions and complaints have been directly resolved. 

Regarding the submission of electricity bills and waiver of fines, the General Manager said that as per the BERC guidelines, residential customers will be able to pay their bills without penalty during February, March, April and the public holidays announced by the government in 2020. The bill in rural areas is also being collected by setting up spot collection booths at different places.

Everyone was requested to pay their electricity bills at home by using mobile financial services (MFS) bKash and Teletalk. In the comments section, instructions were    

given to the concerned about the application to start a new line before Eid-ul-Fitr. Immediate instructions were given to those in charge, to look into the subscriber’s allegations regarding the bill. Many customers welcomed this exceptional event and thanked the authorities.

It is to be noted that there are instructions by the Cabinet Division to hold public hearings in all departments. Accordingly, public hearings were organised in all the departments. However, during the current corona pandemic, the number of service seekers coming to the office has decreased. REB is providing the best service to its customers with the principle of “Stay with technology, save money and time”. 

By maintaining social distance in the current situation, for the first time in Bangladesh, Brahmanbaria Palli Bidyut Samiti organised an online public hearing under the slogan “With the customer beside the customer” through their official Facebook page.
