In April-3,1971, the Brute Pakistani Army resorted to massive manslaughter at Deorachhara Tea Garden under Kamalganj Upazila of Sylhet killing 58 labourers.

According to sources, the Manager of the Tea Garden was a non-Bengali ( Bihari). Before March 25, the Manager left the Tea Garden and many employees of the garden also went to the safe shelters. Only the poverty-stricken, helpless Tea Garden labourers were left behind. A local Muslim League leader was threatening the tea garden labourers for not casting votes in his favour in 1970. After the crackdown on March 25, the Pakistani Army gheraoed the Tea Garden on April 3 and took 70 labourers from their houses nearby. After blindfolding and fastening their hands and legs, the Army started mass shooting by lining them up in a row. Of them, 58 labourers were killed on the spot.

However, 12 labourers were seriously injured in the shooting and managed to survive.  Local Union Parishad Chairman has recently constructed a Martyred Memorial Structure on the slaughter spot of the Pakistani Army.

It is learnt, luring the poor, helpless labourers of food ( ration), the Pakistani Army boarded 70 labourers on a bus and took them to a nearby canal where the labourers were stripped up and with the clothes they wore, they were blindfolded their hands and legs were tied up. Then they were forced to stand up in a row and the Pakistani Army opened brush fire on them killing 58 labourers on the spot. However, 12 of the labourers including Mohini Goala, Robi Goala, Mohesh Kanu and Narail Kurmi were miraculously saved even after being injured by gun-shots. They were recovered after treatment.

The aftermath of the slaughtering, Pakistani Army and their Agents( Dalals) resorted to looting in the shanties of the labourers. They also raped some women at the shanties. The place remained deserted following the shooting and killing of the labourers.  In December 2014, Iftekhar Ahmed Bodrul, Chairman of Rahimpur-1 Union, in cooperation with the Deorachhara Tea Garden authorities, the place of the mass slaughter was identified and a Memorial Structure at his own cost.
