Paddy production exceeds target in Chuadnaga

A total of 6,05,832.5 metric tons of Boro, Aush and Aman paddy have been produced in four upazilas of Chuadanga district by cultivating on 1,08,202 hectares of land from Boro, Aush and Aman cultivation this year. The demand of paddy is about 3,69,748.5 metric tons of paddy per year in the district as food. After meeting the demand over 2,36,084 metric tonnes of paddy has surpluses in Chuadanga.  

According to District Agriculture Extension Department, about 2,17,394 metric tons of Boro paddy has been produced from January to April on 34316 hectares of land. Of the total 41990 metric tons of paddy has been produced on 6130 hectares of land in Sadar Upazila, 71685 metric tons of paddy on 12467 hectares of land in Alamdanga upazila, 63219 metric tons of paddy on 9726 hectares of land in Damurhuda upazila and 40500 metric tons of paddy on 6000 hectares of land in Jibannagar upazila. 

Aus paddy’s seeds are sown in the month of March-April. The harvesting of aus paddy has been completed in the month of July. Over 73,890.60 metric tons of Aush Paddy has been produced on 14,460 hectares of land in Sadar upazila, 39,045.51 metric tons on 7,641 hectares of land in Alamdanga Upazila, 44,191.28 metric tons of Aush paddy on 8,648 hectares of land in Damurhuda Upazila and 40,624.50 metric tons of Aush paddy on 7,950 hectares of land in Jibannagar Upazila.

At least 1,90,687.5 metric tonnes of Aman paddy has been produced by cultivation on 35,187 hectares of land in in winter paddy. 

Of the total about 22,750.5 metric tons of High Yielding Aman paddy has been produced on 3990 hectares of land in the winter season. The upazila wise breaks up are-3675 metric tonnes of the paddy on 750 hectares of land in Sadar Upazla, 12,810 metric tonnes of the paddy on 2135 hectares of land in Alamdanga Upazila, 850.5 metric tonnes of the paddy on 155 hectares of land in Damurhuda Upazila and 5,415 metric tonnes of the paddy on 950 hectares of land in Jibannagar Upazila. 

The sources also added, 1,67,937 metric tonnes of Aman paddy has been produced from 31,197 hectares of land in the district. So 25,089 metric tonnes of paddy has been produced on 4570 hectares of land in Sadar Upazila, 81,948 metric tonnes of the paddy on 14,377 hectares of land in Alamdanga Upazila, 35,700 metric tonnes of the paddy on 7,000 hectares of land in Damurhuda Upazila and 25,200 metric tonnes of the paddy on 5250 hectares of land in Jibannagar Upazila. 

`Kharif’ is known as winter paddy as per the harvesting time. The planting time of winter (Kharif) is June-July and it is harvested in November-December. 

It may be mentioned that, farmers preserve the paddy at homes for using as food and sell surplus paddy for buying other necessary articles after purifying the paddy.
