More than 350,000 children and adolescents in Gopalganj will receive free typhoid vaccinations under the government’s Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI). The vaccination campaign, supported by UNICEF Bangladesh, is set to begin nationwide on 12 October through online registration.
Ahead of the campaign, a district-level consultation workshop on the “Typhoid Vaccine” was held on Wednesday at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The event was organised by the District Information Office under the project “Awareness and Protection Activities for Children and Women’s Development” with financial assistance from UNICEF Bangladesh.
The workshop was presided over by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, with District Information Officer Md Sulaiman moderating. Speakers included Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Said Md Faruk, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Ziaul Haque, District Education Officer Khondoker Ruhul Amin, District Primary Education Officer Ms Jyotsna Khatun, and Medical Officer Dr Dibakar Biswas.
Officials and media representatives from print and electronic outlets were also present.
According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, children aged 9 months to under 15 years will be vaccinated following online registration. The vaccine is globally approved and has no reported side effects. This year, a total of 343,073 children and adolescents in Gopalganj district will receive the typhoid vaccine.
