Over 150 villages of 16 unions in Naogaon inundated

The flood situation in Naogaon has further deteriorated and more than 150 villages in 16 unions of Raninagar, Atrai and Manda upazilas have been inundated. Millions of people are now waterlogged. The flood situation in Raninagar, Atrai and Manda upazilas has worsened due to non-repair of broken parts of the flood control dams at 7 places. 

New areas are being flooded every day. Raw houses are collapsing. The crop field is sinking. People have taken shelter in high places or on barriers. There has been a crisis of pure water. 7,000 hectares of crops have been submerged in the district. Hundreds of fish have been washed away in the pond. They are in trouble with cattle.

Arif Uzzaman Khan, executive engineer of the Naogaon Water Development Board, said the flood situation had improved somewhat. Although the waters of Atrai and Jamuna rivers have receded in some places, the water of Atrai river is flowing at 29 cm above the danger level at Atrai railway station point and the water of small Jamuna river has decreased and is now flowing parallel to Bidseema.

Manda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Abdul Halim said people of 4 unions of the upazila have been flooded. About 40,000 people with their livestock and poultry are still living in misery due to the floods. Among the 1,000 flood-affected families, 10 kg rice and pulses, oil, salt, noodles and other dry food packets have been distributed at the initiative of the district administration.

Atrai Upazila Executive Officer Sanaul Islam said about 60,000 people have been affected by the floods in six unions of the upazila. So far, 10 kg rice and dry food packets of rice, pulses, oil, salt, sugar, noodles etc. have been distributed among 3,000 families at the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner. In addition, relief materials worth Tk 2 lakh have been distributed from the funds of the Upazila Parishad.

Raninagar Upazila Executive Officer Al Mamun said about 40,000 people have been affected by the floods in five unions of the upazila. So far, under the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner, 10 kg rice and dry food packets of rice, pulses, oil, salt, sugar, noodles etc. have been distributed among 2,000 families. In addition, relief materials worth Tk 2 lakh have been distributed from the funds of the Upazila Parishad.
