Over 1200 Tangail families getting houses during Mujib Barsho

During Mujib Barsho, 1,264 homeless families not owning any land or houses, in 12 upazilas of Tangail will get houses under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. 

Construction of more than 700 houses has already started. In the first phase on January 15, houses will be handed over to 574 homeless families in the district. 

The construction cost for each of these houses containing two bedrooms, a kitchen, a toilet and a porch has been estimated at Tk 1.71 lakh. 

Tangail DC office confirmed as part of the government’s project for providing homeless people with permanent shelters, these houses would be officially handed over to 1,164 homeless families in Tangail. 

Apart from this, Tangail District Awami League, Member of Parliament, Upazila Chairman, government employees, non-governmental organisations and wealthy people of the district took initiative to finance the construction of 100 more houses for the homeless. 

Meanwhile, the DC office warned that no concession would be given in terms of the quality of work in this project. An ashram in Bhuapur that did not use quality bricks was removed immediately.

Bachatan Begum, a resident of Bhuapur said that since the death of her husband she had been living on a government land, as her children did not take any of her responsibilities. “Later the govt. officials came and made me a house,” she added being delighted.

Zahir Uddin of Faldagara Bari area of Bhuapur said, “We had 45 decimal land and a house in Rajapur village of Gabasara union. 25 years ago, all the land was lost in the erosion of Jamuna. I lost the house too in 2018. Since then I have been living on other people's land in the village. I am very happy to get a house from the government”.

Kohinur Begum said, “I had lived in another people’s house for the last four years after my house was destroyed byJamuna. I had to run my family by working as a house-maid. I have no available money to build a house again. So I had to suffer a lot. I am very happy to get a house from the government. I wish Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a long life.”

Sharbanu Begum of Madhupur Upazila said, “My husband left me 30 years ago. The brothers also secretly shared the father's property left me no portion. For almost two years, I was mentally unbalanced. Since I have no house of my own, I have lived in someone one's house. I am very happy to get a government house.

Deputy Commissioner of Tangail Dr. Md. Ataul Gani said, no irregularities have been reported about the project so far. If any substandard material is used, it will be removed. Discussions have also been held in this regard to prevent any irregularities. Therefore, there will be no scope for unfair transaction in the distribution of houses.
